Microsoft 365 SharePoint

The Modern SharePoint List

The modern SharePoint list has a lot of similarities with the modern document libraries. For years, we have been familiar with the “classic” look & feel:

Let’s take a look at the modern experience for SharePoint lists:

The form for creating new items looks as following:

This a huge change right? I like the more prominent position of Attachments. The release of modern lists really excels with the integration of PowerApps and Flow.

PowerApps

PowerApps allows you to create a mobile App while interacting with the SharePoint list. PowerApps launches with one click on the button:

After naming the App, the PowerApps designer is loaded within the browser. There is also a Windows 10 application available. The next screenshots shows the designer in action:

The designer allows you to add additional components such as the camera of the mobile phone. You can also modify the look & feel by using themes. Business users are able to download the PowerApps App for their mobile phone. The App displays all the available PowerApps within the Office 365 tenant. A really powerful new service and add-on for SharePoint lists. I am definitely not an expert in PowerApps so I recommend to take a look at the official website.

Flow

Flow is brand new workflow service within SharePoint Online. A selection of templates are available to automate business processes. You can also create your own template with a selection of templates:

You are probably wondering what about Nintex Workflow? There are definitely more similarities. Nintex has been around for years and offers a lot more features. My feeling says Flow is the replacement of SharePoint Designer and the out-of-the-box workflows. I really like the integration options with external services. This is huge step forward from the limited out-of-the-box options and the frustrating SharePoint Designer experience. You should definitely check out the official Microsoft Flow site.

Some lists will not display as a Modern List, though others do.
Why and what to do to force a list to be modern?
